Tapping into nostalgia for the 50th anniversary of ZOOM, a groundbreaking children’s series

Description
ZOOM, a 70s children’s TV series produced by GBH, was a cultural phenomenon. As the series approached its 50th anniversary, the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB), a collaboration between GBH Archives and the Library of Congress, planned to publish an online exhibit exploring the history of the series. To form a compelling narrative about GBH’s legacy as a leader in children’s media and the AAPB as a source for archival preservation and access, we asked the AAPB to create an online collection featuring all of the digitized episodes of ZOOM to present alongside the exhibit. We pitched the ZOOM special collection and exhibit around the 50th anniversary and secured features on NPR, Boston Globe Magazine and Slate, resulting in an outpouring of nostalgia on social media, and generating the most referrals to the AAPB site in a single day, and one of the biggest referrals ever from another site.
