“Ride the Ferry Day” Highlights the Need For Preserving Public Transportation on the South Shore
Category
Single-Item Division - Events > Media Event
Description
The Towns of Cohasset, Hingham, Hull and Scituate became clients of John Guilfoil Public Relations last fall as part of a six-week campaign to raise awareness over major service cuts to public transportation that were being proposed by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority. One of the key events of our campaign was a “Ride the Ferry Day” that told the stories of the many different groups of people who ride the Hingham-Hull Ferry every day. It gave the media a chance to see firsthand what commuting on the Ferry looks like and allowed for interviews with riders of kinds. A press conference was held once the Ferry docked, which was open to media outlets unable to take part in the ride. In total, television coverage related to the event had an audience of more than 138,000 viewers, and the online and print news audience reached nearly 3 million readers.
